HISTORIC SPEAKER
Glimpses of
Crosslake's nave
People.
Presenters: Ray
Nelson and Jon
Schram.
Tuesday, June 15,
2010
7:00 PM
Each June we have someone present a historic program on a subject of local interest. Sometimes it is a demonstration by a local craftsman. It's always different, but always interesting and well-attended. Notice of this event can be found in the Echo newspaper.
Presenters are local
historians of
Crosslake's native
people and students
of Native American
artifacts. Their
presentation will
take us back to the
time when the
Crosslake region was
home to Native
Americans. Learn of
daily tribal life
and of occasional
conflicts between
tribes, of early
contacts with with
explorers, of the
fur trade, and of
nearby burial sites.
Also learn about
artifacts from this
era, many of them
collected from the
shores of the
Whitefish chain of
lakes, which will be
displayed and
explained.
Open to the public.

LOG HOME & CABIN TOUR
Tickets sold by mail only - after July 1
Thursday & Friday, July
29 & 30
This event started in 1991 and has become one of the most popular annual events of the Crosslake season, with tickets selling out at record speed. The log home tour takes place generally in the third week of July, on a Thursday and Friday; guests can choose the day that best fits their schedule. Four buses usher our guests to four different fantastic homes to tour, followed by a delicious catered luncheon. |
|
|
 |
|
The four featured homes represent a broad variety, some old and cozy, some new and modern, but all absolutely fabulous. It's a great way to get ideas for one's own home.
Tickets go on sale to the general public July 1. Members of the Crosslake Historical Society get several days to reserve their tickets before they go on sale to the public. Tickets are $45 per person. Watch for an ad in late June in the Echo. |

ARTISANS' FAIR
Sunday, August
8th - 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
This annual event takes place on a Sunday in mid-August. Area artisans gather and demonstrate their old-time skills, and sell their products. Typical demonstrations might include a blacksmith, glassblower, basket weaver, soap maker, candle maker, wool spinner, birch bark canoe builder, potters, log and twig furniture, outdoor cooking demonstrations, old-time games for children, such as making corn husk dolls, and much much more. It is a perfect day of family fun for all ages. Food and cold drinks are sold, as well as the handmade wares. It is truly a "don't miss" day in our area.

CANDLELIGHT & CIDER TOUR
September 25
to be held in
conjunction with
Crosslake Day and
the Chili cookoff
Raffle Drawings!
School has started, the boats are in, and fall's crisp air marks the end of summer. This event is a true highlight--a final farewell to our last days of summer, while welcoming the return to fall. Park in downtown Crosslake in the evening, and get picked up by the horse-drawn buggy that makes the circuit from the downtown area to our Historic Log Village. The village is lit by lanterns, candlelight, and perhaps just a few "real" lights as safety requires. Strolling musicians (fiddle and guitar) add their magic, while hot cider and other treats are available. It's one of the few times to tour the eight buildings as pioneers knew cabin life at twilight with kerosene lamps. There is just something special and magical about this event that finds the number of attendees growing by leaps and bounds. Our annual raffle prize (a homemade quilt, hand-crafted log cabin bird feeder, or another ever-changing craft) is drawn at this event. Come and see why this is such a special evening! |
